UPDATE 4-five-2011.
I Referred to as Smittybilt client Service (Also procomp) and turns out when amazon.com shipped my unit it is conceivable the carrier dropped the box a certain way. My clutch lever was loose and this is NOT normal. They are sending me a replacement unit and gear cover to repair the problem for free of charge. So if you acquire this - make confident the lever is tight when shifted from freespool to engaged as mine was quite loose and could move with a pinky. B/c of the really good client service - i've changed to 5 stars

I just installed this on my cherokee XJ so this review will be precise to that installation. I have an ARB Bull Bar on a 2001 XJ. I attached a picture to the amazon for assessment.
Packaging:
This item comes shipped in a box. the styrofoam have to be cheap b/c some of it melted on the controller cable. There appears to be no dents or dings and issues came properly. The synthetic cable does not come on the drum and is in it is own plastic bag. It does come with a pull line for the winch itself which is not pictured but is pictured in what i've posted. It does come with all the hardware necessary which is good.
Clocking:
I had to clock the transmission on my winch so that the manage would point downwards. I had to mount my winch with the bottom facing the the front of the auto (you can see the bolt holes). I also had to clock the motor side of it so the battery connections are conveniently accesible. There are directions on how to do both the clocking in the winch kit.
Installation: This unit weighs about 60 pounds and I was in a position to mount the winch with the bumper in place. I had about three/4" of area to spare. I had a helper thread the screws in for me. For the fairlead I had to drill two holes. then i had to spacer the bottom mounts of the winch out with washers to get the nut to match behind it. The battery cable offered is lengthy adequate. If i had to do it again i would give some thought to move the solenoid to be underneath my hood. then run the longer cables to the motor itself. At current the solenoid sits on my radiator assistance. I took the solenoid out of the plastic container. The solenoid box is WAY also significant, it must be created substantially smaller in my opinion.
So far I've only used this on a test pull. I pulled my jeep towards one other rig as an anchor. I did it as soon as as a double line and again as a single line. It's decently quickly for it is price. The synthetic line was what sold me on this in addition to the $50 rebate that is getting supplied. The line itself is quite light so that would help a lot considering the fact that this is bolted on the very front finish of my rig.
Concerns:
I've found that the clutch handle does not remain engaged. When a load is relieved, it goes into a middle location amongst absolutely free and engaged. You require to apply some force to the handle to stay engaged. I've rigged some thing up for now that hold it. Will call their consumer service and will go from there. My other complaint is a smaller sized and a truely waterproof solenoid case. These troubles are what cease me from giving it 5 stars.

This winch is a fairly great package it looks superb.The rope is worth the extra coin just for effortless use and quality of rope and safety.Winch functions simple and easy has a fantastic line speed for the cost of the winch.They remote functions fine but could use a little rubber on shell just in case you put on to drop it a lot.I program on mounting mine on the inside of my buggy so this will not be a situation for me.I also like that when you hook the remote to the winch you have to turn it clock smart to lock it which is a excellent thing for the difficult rock crawling or trail rides result in it is less app to vibrate loose.Fantastic over order like it way far better than my final winch the warn 8k with a distinct rope.
