I am elderly and have a really heavy double-pained glass and metal framed window in the back storage area that gets heavier to lift for closing with each advancing year. When it is closed in the up position and the position locks are released It desires to drop like a rock, all the way to the bottom position. With this small windlass I can now raise and lower the window simply and safely with just a single finger. ... Difficulty SOLVED ! ... This small windlass has a lever brake that engages and releases the cogs readily, regardless of the strain, and can be applied to lock the unit at any hoist position. It can not release entirely for a free of charge fall but must be released and manually wound down, a safety function.
